Creating a Brighter FutureTogether

Welcome

therapist

Joan Cade is a licensed psychoanalyst, parent counselor and early childhood educational and psychological consultant. Joan’s background is unique in that she has worked concurrently as a psychotherapist for adults and as an early childhood educator and consultant for close to 30 years.

In her private practice, Joan specializes in counseling the parents of preschool age children.

Joan is an alumna of Bank Street College of Education and has an M.S. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She completed her psychoanalytic training at NPAP (National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis) where she is a member of the Training Institute and the Association. Joan received her training in child and adolescent psychotherapy at NYPSI (New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute).

Psychotherapy

In her psychotherapy practice, Joan has extensive experience working with adults on a wide range of issues including: relationships, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, defining life goals, work satisfaction, creative self-expression, self-esteem, stress-related physical symptoms, and parenting.

For the treatment of depression and anxiety, Joan believes the benefits of talk therapy can be augmented by incorporating healthy practices such as sufficient sleep, aerobic exercise, breathing techniques, and good nutrition into one's daily life. Joan provides resources and guidance to her patients to support them in implementing these practices.

Parent Guidance

Compassionate, insightful and practical, Joan is often able to help parents resolve their child's behavior issues without referring the child to therapy

Joan counsels parents of preschool age children on a broad range of child rearing issues, family changes, adjustment difficulties, loss and trauma, regulating emotions, and developmental delays. Drawing on her many years of both teaching and clinical experience, Joan offers effective strategies to help children at home and in school.

Understanding that each child, parent and situation is unique, Joan individualizes her approach to meet the needs of each family.
